And he’s out. The blind mathematician behind the Hindenburg Omen (you remember, that’s the technical indicator that tells us a stock market crash is nigh) tells the Wall Street Journal he’s gotten out of stocks a little more than a week before September, when this crash is supposed to happen.

Jim Miekka, who developed the indicator more than a decade ago, says its “sort of like a funnel cloud. It doesn’t mean it’s going to crash, but it’s a high probability. You don’t get a tornado without a funnel cloud.”

The Hindenburg Omen, named after the airship that exploded as it was docking in New Jersey in 1937, has preceded every crash since 1987, but it has also popped up plenty of times without any subsequent market decline. It resurfaced in mid-August and became popular fodder for various trading oriented blogs. It was triggered by two important statistical events. One, NYSE highs and lows both exceeded 2.5% — stocks reaching 52-week highs were 2.9% of stocks traded at the Big Board, while stocks hitting 52-week lows were 2.6%. And two, a rising 10-week moving average for the NYSE compared to a negative indicator that shows market fluctuations (the McClellan Oscillator).

The trends had to be reconfirmed, and they were last week.

It really makes you wonder what is going to come of this:

BP has confirmed that there is an oil leak on the sea floor several miles away from the Deepwater Horizon’s damaged blowout preventer. The undisclosed specific location of the sub- sea leak is reported to be billowing oil and deadly methane gas.

There are concerns that this has been happening for quite some time, and that BP and the government have attempted to squelch reporting through a media blackout:

On May 5, 2010 BP confirmed that one of three initial leaks had been plugged. The second leak is the one millions of people have been watching through the BP live video feed. However, the third leak has been virtually ignored.

In the early stages of the 90 day-old disaster, oil industry expert Matt Simmons told NBC News that a major area of seepage was coming from an area about 7 miles from the well. Simmons called it the “elephant behind the mouse.”

Should the sea floor leak announced today be confirmed in same location as the one Simmons and Senator Nelson have reported, then BP and the government have been aware of it all along, further substantiating fears of an oil spill media blackout.

But there’s more.

The methane levels are reported to be a million times greater than normal, according to oceanographer John Kessler:

Preliminary results, he says, point to high concentrations of the gas. “Methane levels ranged from 10,000 to nearly 1 million times higher in some spots than normal concentration,” Kessler said.

Ramifications are multifold, Kessler said. He called the site a natural laboratory in which to better assess the effect of methane on global climate change. Naturally occurring methane seeps have been linked to rapid climate change. For instance, an event occurring 55 million years ago may have caused one of these spikes, scientists believe. So the Deepwater Horizon environmental disaster may, at least, help scientists better understand and perhaps predict methane effects on global temperatures.

And all of this brings to mind the alleged 1990 prophecy reported frequently on SpiritDaily.com, especially this part:

Weakened sand and salt layers above the reservoir simply collapse, turning a wide area of the outer continental shelf sea floor into an underwater sinkhole that could bleed 2 billion to 3 billion barrels of oil into Gulf waters. In addition, seismic-shock tremors roll in all directions for miles, with an unknown effect on other nearby fields, especially BP’s Thunder Horse (18 miles) field and Shell and BP’s Na Kika complex, located in Mississippi Canyon Block 474 (approximately 15 miles south-southeast of the blowout).

Gerald Celente says the current plateau after the recent crash is just a temporary calm, brought about by printing money. We’re still in for it:

And Gerald Celente of TrendsResearch.com, says people right now should be bracing for “the greatest recession” which will hit worldwide and will mark the “decline of empire America.” Crop failures could be among the minor concerns.

“Here we are in 2012. Food riots, tax protests, farmer rebellions, student revolts, squatter diggins, homeless uprisings, tent cities, ghost malls, general strikes, bossnappings, kidnappings, industrial saboteurs, gang warfare, mob rule, terror,” he writes for a quarterly publication that is available through subscription on his website.

The recent surge in Wall Street indexes back to near the 10,000 level, still far below the 14,000 prior to the crash, should be no reassurance for anyone, he said.

“There’s no recovery. This is merely a cover-up,” he said. “The market crashed in March of 2009 and around the world they papered over the damage from the collapse with phantom money printed out of thin air backed by nothing,” he said.

Is it coming?

Like something ripped from the pages of a familiar novel, terrorist are promising to detonate suitcase nukes in seven cities, eight years after 9/11.

The man who predicted 9/11 is worried that its sequel is imminent.

“Muslims that I talk to say things like, ‘America thinks they’re safe now. They’ve forgotten about 9/11. But watch, Daniel. Stay near your TV. It’s going to be bigger than 9/11,’ ” he said.

Hill said the next terrorist attack will involve suitcase nuclear bombs that will be detonated in small, low-flying two-seater private airplanes manned by men hanging onto the belief that, like the 9/11 hijackers, they are about to die as martyrs and enter paradise.

He is not alone in suggesting such a scenario. A 2007 book, “The Day of Islam,” spells out the details, as do any number of Internet sites about a plot called “American Hiroshima.”

The nukes, he said, will be detonated over New York, Washington, D.C., Chicago, Miami, Houston, Las Vegas and Los Angeles.

I asked Hill, “Why now?”

“Eight years from 1993 to 2001, eight years from that 9/11 to this 9/11,” he said. “Symbolism. They’re big on symbolism.”

“Ramadan started two weeks ago Saturday,” he said, referring to the Muslim holy month of fasting. “It always hits around Ramadan.”

Eight years ago, Hill predicted the attack would come on Oct. 16 — almost in the middle of that year’s Ramadan (the timing of Ramadan varies from year to year). He was about a month off.

“I don’t know the second, hour or day. I just know they have the means, will, motivation and desire to do it,” he said, noting that it’s believed that years ago the suitcase nukes, acquired from former USSR operatives, were smuggled into America across the Mexican border.

Hill said he has warned the FBI, the CIA and others in government. For the past two years, he’s sent out proposals for a book on the subject. All he’s gotten back are rejections.

And who is the person claiming all this, and how does he know?

“I’m a Muslim,” he says. “I’m a special ops expert, I’m a terrorist and I’ve lived among Muslims. I fought the Russians with the same guys we’re now fighting in Afghanistan. I met Osama. I volunteered to assassinate him. I know (the enemy) so well because I’ve worked, slept and prayed alongside them for years. I’ve become one of them. I know their nature, I know their culture, I know how they think. I can quote the Koran like a Southern Baptist minister can quote the New Testament. I know these are people who do not tire, who do not quit. There are odds this won’t happen, but they aren’t big odds.”

The new papal encyclical is surely being spun like a washing machine by the mainstream media. Having only read excerpts, and many summaries, I see the call for ethics in economics, respect for all humanity, and respect for nature and life. But there also seems to be, inescapably, some sort of call or endorsement of a united, worldwide political structure. This is puzzling to me as I always thought subsidiarity and distributism where core themes of Catholic thinking in this area, and the inherent danger of a worldwide political body would be discouraged. So I am hopeful that Catholic theologians, and philosophers, more learned than me, will help to interpret this translated-into-English encyclical into clearer context than Reuters. Catholicism is 2000 years old, my conversion only a few.

So I leave open the door for further commentary. That being said, and this site being what it is, this whole news reminds me of the prophecy of St. Malachy. St. Malachy had a revelatory vision one day and pinned a prophecy of all the coming popes from his time to the last pope, each with a motto representing his papacy. I won’t go into it here, as it is easily found on the web. Let’s just say he seemed to predict the last pope and current pope with stunning accuracy, and his prophecy is about a thousand years old. The kicker, Benedict XVI is to be the last pope according to Malachy, before the rise of Peter the Roman: “In extreme persecution, the seat of the Holy Roman Church will be occupied by Peter the Roman, who will feed the sheep through many tribulations; when they are over, the city of seven hills will be destroyed, and the terrible [or fearsome] Judge will judge his people. The End.”

Let me digress into potential, horrible, speculation regarding the prophecy of St. Malachy. Here is the scenario:

Benedict makes his encyclical pronouncement, very understandable and Christian in terms of ethics and respect for life and nature, but perplexing in calling for new political organizations (or the reform of existing ones) into God-centered, respectable, world authorities. The secular media, and the army of leftists in the strained and stressed church all hail this as an endorsement for some sort of worldwide socialism, ignoring the God-centered parts, the respect for natural birth and death, and so on. Unexpectedly, Benedict XVI dies. A new pope comes to power. He is planted by those in the church wishing to see a worldwide leftist political order, the spread of reproductive rights, Marxism, mandatory public education, eugenics, and so on, including all the things we know too well they believe in. Traditionalists in the church cry foul, but alas this new pope has the endorsement of the duped lay people, and the political elite of the world. Even Obama likes him! This man would be Peter the Roman, and he would be part and parcel to the great tribulation, standing alongside the New World Order as it destroys humanity, distorts religion, and brings about the long foretold tribulation in the Bible. And then what? The fearsome Judge will judge his people. The End.

Far-fetched? I sure hope so. But why do I have a queasy feeling in my stomach? Now the above scenario goes from Tribulation to The End rather abruptly. Where is the 1,000 year era of peace? Or the 1,000 year reign of Christ on Earth. I don’t know. I’m just trying to put together current world events, a scary prophecy about the popes, and the current media buzz over what Benedict XVI has said in his encyclical.

But who am I? I’m still enjoying life immensely, and no matter what happens, trust in God!

UPDATE: I think it’s clear that there are portions of the new encyclical that state the importance of the individual and local sovereignty, but the language of encouraging global authority is still unnerving to me. That said, some others have weighed in:

Before considering the injustice claim, however, we must address some of the language that many find troubling, particularly the section here about “effective power to ensure security for all” and “to ensure compliance…” These phrases understandably trouble many conservatives, who imagine an Orwellian bureaucracy that eases the world into despotism. But in Caritas and other Church encyclicals, global authorities are always limited by the principle of subsidiarity, which in John Paul II’s Centesimus Annus is defined as the principle that

a community of a higher order should not interfere in the internal life of a community of a lower order, depriving the latter of its functions, but rather should support it in case of need and help to coordinate its activity with the activities of the rest of society, always with a view to the common good.

Subsidiarity, as Caritas notes immediately prior to the controversial section under consideration here, is an “expression of inalienable human freedom” that “respects personal dignity” and thus is “the most effective antidote against any form of all-encompassing welfare state.” Thus limited international authorities constrained by subsidiarity should not be feared.

George Weigel at NRO (ht to New Wineskins) says some of it may have been a nod to the Pontifical Council on Justice and Peace:

There is also rather more in the encyclical about the redistribution of wealth than about wealth-creation — a sure sign of Justice and Peace default positions at work. And another Justice and Peace favorite — the creation of a “world political authority” to ensure integral human development — is revisited, with no more insight into how such an authority would operate than is typically found in such curial fideism about the inherent superiority of transnational governance. (It is one of the enduring mysteries of the Catholic Church why the Roman Curia places such faith in this fantasy of a “world public authority,” given the Holy See’s experience in battling for life, religious freedom, and elementary decency at the United Nations. But that is how they think at Justice and Peace, where evidence, experience, and the canons of Christian realism sometimes seem of little account.)

If those burrowed into the intellectual and institutional woodwork at the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace imagine Caritas in Veritate as reversing the rout they believe they suffered with Centesimus Annus, and if they further imagine Caritas in Veritate setting Catholic social doctrine on a completely new, Populorum Progressio–defined course (as one Justice and Peace consultor has already said), they are likely to be disappointed.

In the end, the world has ignored the pope over concerns of human life, euthanasia, abortion, and birth control. If they choose to follow anything in the new encyclical it will be cherry picked for their own secular advancement, but may unfortunately dupe many people into thinking it has the Vatican seal of approval. And unfortunately, that doesn’t rule out the Malachy scenario I described above.

A good explanation from Ben Fisher on why the global business elite, pushing a New World Order, must eliminate the independence of the United States and the Catholic church. Within the US, the goal would be to bankrupt the country, and stoke distrust between blue state internationalists and red state individualists, to the point where the country breaks down and half of us are ready to join the global saviors. To equal the wealth of some Bilderbergers, it would take millions of us working many years. That’s how wealthy they are.

Yet the Bilderberg Group is one among many planning the new world order. Evil likes to spread itself out far and wide, like a multiheaded snake, so that if one head is lost, the beast can continue its rampage.

How the Bilderberger’s relate to other one-worlders like the Tri-Lateral Commission or the Council on Foreign Relations are best described in Ted Flynn’s book, Hope of the Wicked. Trust me that other snake heads exist aiming for the same thing.

Included in the groups are small snakes like Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner, not one the uber rich but a serpent willing enough to help ruin America’s economy so that he can take the crumbs from his masters’ plates.

Millions of lines of theories, wild theories, conspiracy theories, and WAY WAY OUT THERE theories have been written about the Bilderberg and other groups.

But one truth about the Bilderbergers was confirmed in a candid admission this week. As reported by the World News Daily,

Former British cabinet minister, Lord Denis Healey, one of the founders of the group, explained the purpose of (the Bilderbergers): “Those of us in Bilderberg felt we couldn’t go on forever fighting one another for nothing and killing people and rendering millions homeless. So we felt that a single community throughout the world would be a good thing.”

Will the media ever acknowledge that the extreme denial of biological gender by some of those in the politically correct class borders on the insane? It is one thing to say that women are capable of many things men do and vice versa, but it is another thing altogether to try and state that the concrete biological nature of gender is just an oppressive psychological construct of the masculine-dominated mind, ruled by thousands of years of sexualized oppression by men, and continued to this day through the “discredited” Pope Benedict XVI.

What am I getting at? Well, it is the attitude of Henry Knox, Pope-hater, and Obama’s “faith-based” adviser that says we need to move past “heteronormative” fatherhood.

“It’ll be challenging to do that for instance in ways that are not dismissive of the tremendous gifts of single mothers; not to sort of hold a heteronormative view of fatherhood up as the only model,” said Knox.

What, you ask, could that possibly be? The made up, jargonized word ‘heteronormative’ implies that fatherhood is somehow coupled to motherhood, in the terms of a natural biological relationship, as demonstrated by mammalian biology for millions of years. It is the–gasp–insistence that heterosexuality is the biological norm.

Wow, these idiots sure want to throw out the natural sciences when it interferes with what they want to do with their private parts and how far they want to go to force you to accept it.

I’m not being pessimistic, just trying to be accurate. But it looks like things aren’t going to get better any time soon. We are on the path to a dire economy, an increasingly immoral society, a globalized government, and potentially even a manipulated form of nature where both the climate and food are engineered with hubris by governments and corporations.

Let’s examine some headlines:

With Hubris Obama and scientists look to do the ultimate in human climate change by altering the entire planet’s ecosystem in order to “prevent” global warming. This has to be one of the most arrogant ideas around with an amazing level of risk and danger.

The Feds conducted a stress test of banks to see how they would handle things…now they are delaying the results because they fear the markets will plummet when the results are revealed.

Spies have penetrated the US electrical grid and may be able to disrupt parts of it. Events like this could have a devastating impact on the economy.

A panel to investigate the TARP bailout program has announced that things are “far from over” and the problems are starting to take root in the larger economy. An economist who also has a good track record of predicting the crisis says that the cash infusion is just temporary, and things are going to get ugly again.

What is the effect of this on people? In the last month 57 people have been killed in unhinged mass murders. Perhaps, as they say, the veil is thinning. People are clamoring to disarm the public, but that will only make such killings easier, not to mention violate the constitution.

And Israel conducts its largest drills ever in an effort to prepare its military and population for impending war.

It’s hard to see anything rosy in these stories, but even so, we must put ourselves “confidently in the hands of Providence,” as they say.

Recently we reported the interesting story at New Scientist warning about doom in 2012 from a coronal mass ejection. Here is more information regarding the practical dangers such an event has:

Plasma balls blasting out from the surface of the sun could wipe out our modern electricity grids, which would draw the energy to them like antennas and quickly overload.

This would have a knock on effect on many of the systems that support our lives, including water and sewage treatment, medicine cooling, supermarket delivery, power station controls and financial markets.

To rebuild the grid, the melted transformer hubs would need to be replaced but new ones take up to a year to make to order.

People, factories, offices, all businesses would be without power for months or years. The rippling effects in the economy could be crippling. Nearly all sources of trade would be shutdown. Food would be looted out of cities in a matter of weeks. Hospitals would be inoperable. Disease and famine would spread. Will it happen?

It is the Gospel According to the Aliens. LA Marzulli gives more details on the false religious imagery attributed to aliens in Knowing:

Without giving away the movie away, as the story unfolds we see mysterious men who appear to Koestler’s son and communicate with him telepathically. These men are also able to walk through walls. We also learn that the little fourth grader who wrote the series of numbers, 50 years ago, heard whispering voices in her head, that continued throughout her tragic, short-lived life. Koestler’s son also begins to hear the voices. The quest to stop the disasters leads Koestler to an abandoned trailer out in the boonies where we see - brace yourself - the faded picture of Ezekiel’s vision, of a wheel within a wheel, hung on one of the walls. At the end of the movie we see these men who have appeared to Koestler and his son, change their appearance and reveal their true form, that of angels, complete with wings. When their huge ship appears, Koestler falls to his knees, as he is OVERWHELMED - there’s that word again - by what he sees. I don’t want to give any more of the movie away so I’ll stop here.

As we have said repeatedly, concern over 2012 comes from all walks of life. A recent article at the New Scientist is ripe with worry over a solar storm in 2012.

IT IS midnight on 22 September 2012 and the skies above Manhattan are filled with a flickering curtain of colourful light. Few New Yorkers have seen the aurora this far south but their fascination is short-lived. Within a few seconds, electric bulbs dim and flicker, then become unusually bright for a fleeting moment. Then all the lights in the state go out. Within 90 seconds, the entire eastern half of the US is without power.

A year later and millions of Americans are dead and the nation’s infrastructure lies in tatters. The World Bank declares America a developing nation. Europe, Scandinavia, China and Japan are also struggling to recover from the same fateful event - a violent storm, 150 million kilometres away on the surface of the sun.

The worry isn’t entirely unfounded. According to NASA, 2012 is the year of the next solar max cycle, and the most intense solar activity in 50 years. It is not impossible that a coronal mass ejection could devastate our life on earth.

A well-known author and pastor has shared a vision of destruction on his web site. It involves a catastrophe in New York, and widespread rioting and societal problems across the rest of the country:

There will be riots and fires in cities worldwide. There will be looting—including Times Square, New York City. What we are experiencing now is not a recession, not even a depression. We are under God’s wrath.

Ominously, he goes on to suggest getting a 30-day food supply.

First, I give you a practical word I received for my own direction. If possible lay in store a thirty-day supply of non-perishable food, toiletries and other essentials. In major cities, grocery stores are emptied in an hour at the sign of an impending disaster.

Economy is Melting, is War Looming?

The economic news is looking grim. The permanent-bubble strategy of the Federal Reserve is failing, and is failing hard. All of the standard bubble reinflation tricks have failed.

As ordinary citizens with no power over the levers of policy, we watch from the sidelines, and weep. The whole global economy has tipped into a downward spiral. Trade and output are contracting at rates that outstrip the leisurely depression of the 1930s. Debt deflation has simply washed over the drastic measures taken by governments everywhere.

It’s bad in Asia too, as exports from Japan and Taiwan to China have been cut in half. And apparently a property bubble in China is exploding as well. Factory output is collapsing:

Factory output is collapsing at the fastest pace everywhere. The figures for the most recent month available are, year-on-year: Taiwan (-43pc), Ukraine (-34pc), Japan (-30pc), Singapore (-29pc), Hungary (-23pc), Sweden (-20pc), Korea (-19pc), Turkey (-18pc), Russia (-16pc), Spain (-15pc), Poland (-15pc), Brazil (-15pc), Italy (-14pc), Germany (-12pc), France (-11pc), US (-10pc) and Britain (-9pc).

And the US housing market, the source of wealth for most credit-clogged Americans, is sinking:

US house prices have fallen 27pc (Case-Shiller index). The pace of descent is accelerating. The 2.2pc fall in December was the worst month ever. January looks just as bad. Delinquenc-ies on prime mortgages were 1.72pc in September, 1.89pc in October, 2.13pc on November and 2.42pc in December. This is the trajectory eating away at the banking system.

Graham Turner, from GFC Economics, fears the Dow could crash to 4,000 by summer unless there is a “quantum reduction” in mortgage rates.

The author of the story we’re quoting seems to think the Dow could crash to 4,000. We think 2800 to 4200.

Based on the DJIA adjusted for inflation using the consumer price index, the stock market realizes a 1.64% average annual return. Plotting this on a graph reveals a trend that the market seems tied to, even if specualtion drives it wildly off course. It’s been wildly off course since the 1990s. Based on the information at iTulip, it wouldn’t be surprising to see a Dow hit 2800. But it could be a much worse bounce.

And what are the suggestions to fix this in today’s perma-bubble economy?

The Fed should swoop in to the market – armed with Ben Bernanke’s “printing press” – and mop up enough Treasuries to force 10-year yields down to 1pc and mortgage rates to 2.5pc. Monetary shock and awe.

This remedy is fraught with risk, but all options are ghastly at this point. …

From all accounts, the Fed was ready to launch its bond blitz in January. Something happened. Perhaps the hawks awoke in cold sweats at night, fretting about Weimar.

Perhaps they feared that China and the world will pull the plug on the US bond market. If so, it is time for Washington to get a grip. America remains the hegemonic global power. The Obama team should let it be known – and perhaps Hillary Clinton did just that on her trip to Asia – that any country playing games with the US bond market in this crisis will be treated as an enemy and pay a crushing price.

A group that surprisingly predicted the current economic crisis, including the stock market collapse and real estate sink, is now predicting armed conflict in the United States and other parts of the world:

Thus, the crisis would be able to spark violent popular revolts, the intensity of which would be aggravated by the free circulation of firearms. Latin America, as well as the United States, are the areas most at risk. “There are 200 million guns in circulation in the United States and social violence already manifests itself through gangs,” LEAP head, Franck Biancheri, reminds us. Moreover, LEAP experts already detect population flight from the United States to Europe, “where direct physical danger will remain marginal,” they maintain.

The authors mention that escaping the region and going to an area without so many guns, like Europe, would be safer. Perhaps safer until they lead you to the gas chambers.

Anyway, the group alarmingly predicted the current mess back in 2006:

This apocalyptic perspective could be ridiculed had not this think tank - as of February 2006 - predicted the onset and sequence of the present crisis with disturbing accuracy. So, three years ago, the association described the coming of a “global systemic crisis,” initiated by a global financial infection related to American over-indebtedness, followed by a stock market collapse, specifically in Asia and the United States (of -20 to -50 percent in a year), then the bursting of all the global real estate bubbles in the United Kingdom, Spain, France, and emerging countries. All that would bring about a recession in Europe and a “very Great Depression” in the United States.
